Teaching math...X marks the spot

Teaching the big one has become "work". I am trying to simplify all of that. I don't like to teach. I like to encourage. I love the look on their faces when they "get it"; when after several attempts, they leap in the air with excitement. That's something that the camera almost never captures.

I never feel as if I am teaching, until I am teaching math. Teaching math is fun until they find out that everyone thinks math is hard, OR ONLY for boys, OR only for smart people.
He loves math. He sleeps with his calculator...3 or 4 if he has a chance.

A lot of unschooling happens when the babies are napping - not often these days. Learning is so empowering; I see it every single day.

He's ready for school, I am not ready to let him go, but he will do great.
What the camera does not capture is his ability to compare, and reason, and articulate.  Small wonders everywhere...

“A hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank…but the world may be a better place because I made a difference in the life of a child.”
